Planning Your Royal Taxi West Maui Adventure Tour Itinerary

With so much to do and see, it’s good to get a basic idea of where you might like to go on your West Maui tour ahead of time, although you can always rely on your Royal Taxi driver and guide for suggestions on the way!

Here are some of the attractions you can visit on your West Maui Adventure tour:

  • See the Famous Nakalele Blow Hole. Just near mile marker 38.5, you’ll encounter a safe trail to Nakalele Blowhole, which sits amidst stunning lava rock on the northern West Maui coast. Created by ocean water which became lodged in a subterranean lava tube, the blowhole is a force of nature that erupts according to the tide and wind patterns. Take a safety-first approach when visiting; the rocks near the geyser are slippery and the strength of the water is known to pull people inside. Ask your Royal Taxi West Maui tour guide for more details on this hotspot.
  • Swim in Iao Valley Stream. Easily one of West Maui’s must-see attractions, Iao Valley is not only beautiful, but a sacred site steeped in history and Maui’s cultural heritage. Previously used as a burial ground for Hawaiian chiefs, in the past, only Hawaiian royalty were allowed to visit. Today, visitors can walk through the valley on paved pathways peppered with information about Iao Valley’s history and the famous battle which happened there, and view the Iao Needle, a 1200-foot-high peak, from a bridge in the middle of the park. Once you’ve viewed the peak, walk further down the paths and take a dip in the Iao Stream, or sit by the waterside and meditate or relax. Great for families with small children or elderly relatives due to its easy terrain, Iao Valley is the 2nd wettest part of the state of Hawaii, so bring an umbrella or a poncho if you want to stay dry.
  • Hike the Waihe’e Ridge TrailTouted as one of the best hiking trails on the island due to its lush scenery and views of the ocean, valley, and West Maui mountains, this 4-mile trail is moderately challenging, ascending to a massive 1,500 feet. Walk through forests, tropical fruit trees, and several great birdwatching spots, and end your hike at a picnic area to take it all in and enjoy a well-deserved snack.
  • Watch the Surfers at Honolua Bay. Famous among surfers, Honolua Bay gets packed whenever there’s a good swell, and since Maui is one of the top surfing destinations in the world, visitors are sure to get a glimpse of some of the most talented surfers around. Honolua Bay is an awesome place to snorkel and dive, too, so long as you know where to go! Just be aware of the rocky beach terrain and murky water, and ask your Royal Taxi guide for safety and viewing tips,
  • Visit Kahakuloa Village. A tiny village hidden away in a secluded valley, Kahakuloa Village is a slice of old Hawaii. The historical home to native Polynesian people, also known as “kanaka maoli,” and their descendants, the village houses just over 100 people, and the rocky road to Kahakuloa offers incredible views of the ocean.
  • Visit the Clifftop Gallery. If you’re looking for an authentic Hawaiian souvenir or gift, Kaukini Gallery in the picturesque Kahakuloa Village is the perfect place to find it. A clifftop gallery with a vintage Hawaiian atmosphere, this shop features artwork, crafts, jewelry, prints, and gifts from more than one hundred local artists. It’s a crowd-pleasing addition to any West Maui tour.
  • Stop at West Maui’s Fruit Stands*. The abundance of fruit stands on the island adds to Maui’s endless charm, and West Maui is home to several noteworthy options. Your Royal Taxi guide can lead you to the best stands, but travelers’ favorites like Oluwalu Juice Stand, Curleys, and Coconut Caboose stand out among the rest. Oluwalu Juice Stand in Lahaina is known for its smoothies, and its variety of tropical fruit and locally-grown veggies. Curley’s 10 Mile Fruit Stand features candy and bread along with standard organic fruit and veggie fare, and Coconut Caboose is a mobile truck selling elixirs, tonics, coconut shaved ice and delicacies, and other seasonal items.
  • Visit the Maui Tropical Plantation and Kumu Farms. Located in the beautiful Waikapu valley, a visit to the Maui Tropical Plantation offers plenty of activities, live entertainment, and ways to explore the land. The tram* takes visitors on a tour of the plantation grounds which house hundreds of plants, over 40 crops, a lagoon, a restaurant, a café, a farm stand, and several retail shops. Also on the plantation lives Kumu Farms, a sizable organic farm that serves the island, Oahu, and the mainland, and brings its goods to visitors at its Farm Fresh stand every Monday through Saturday. Ask your Royal Taxi tour driver for more details.
